25th Anniversary MIR's (Mission International Rescue)

Casa de Campo on January 17th, 2015, for Fundación MIR's Annual Magical Splendor Gala.

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to extend a special invitation for you to join us at our home in Casa de Campo on January 17th, 2015, for Fundación MIR´s annual Magical Splendor Gala.  This year will be especially festive as we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of MIR’s work in the community of La Romana.  We are delighted that Saks Fifth Avenue, Badgely Mischka and Roberto Coin will be joining us as presenting sponsors for the evening, making the event truly memorable.

We are pleased to say that, twenty-five years later, MIR now operates three schools that educate over 1,200 students.  Whether the student attends elementary school, middle school, high school, or is enrolled in one of the vocational programs MIR offers, their well-being and development are the primary focus.  Ninety-eight percent of the students that attend the MIR schools graduate and find employment shortly after.  We are incredibly proud of these students and alumni for their accomplishments.

This magical evening is an opportunity for our friends to join us as we raise funds in support of education in this extraordinary country with so many needs.  We hope you join us or if you cannot attend, please consider making a gift.  It is your generosity that will ensure the success of Fundación MIR for years to come.

We appreciate your support and hope to greet you personally at our home to commemorate this organization that holds a very special place in our hearts.

Sincerely,

Alfonso Fanjul                             Raysa Fanjul

About Us

In 1988, after a pilgrimage to Bosnia, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, the founder of what has come to be MIR Charities, felt an overwhelming need to give to those in need in her community. Humbly, Lian began a small food distribution service with a colleague. They packed bags of food in her mother’s garage and distributed the sustenance throughout the nearby town of Pahokee, Florida. Later that same year, her brother Alfonso Fanjul won the Sugar Golf Tournament and donated his winnings to his sister to use as seed money to begin educational programs in the Dominican Republic and that is when MIR began. read more
